Carpet Cleaning and Spot Removal

  If your pets have been afflicted with fleas, the problem most likely has spread to your carpets. To battle the bugs, sprinkle a handful of salt evenly over your carpet before you go to bed (make sure to keep pets out of area as they may be tempted to lick it up). In the morning, vacuum thoroughly and repeat once a week for 6 weeks.

  The colors in carpets and rugs will often take on a new lease of life if they are brushed with a mixture of 1 cup (225ml) of vinegar in 1 gallon (3.75 liters) of water.

Follow up with a splash of club soda if any stains remain and blot dry. Note: Whatever you do, don't scrub it while it's wet, as this can drive the stain deeper into the fibers.

  Need to treat a bloodstain on carpet? Start by covering the area with salt to help absorb some of the blood. Next, mix equal parts cold water and hydrogen peroxide in a small bowl. Dampen a clean cloth with the mixture and use it to dab at the salt until a clump forms. Gently bloth the stain and repeat until the stain disappears. Rinse by blotting with a clean cloth dampened with fresh water. Do not use warm water as this can set the stain, and test on an inconspicuous area first.
