- getting rid of fruit flies
Put a bowl of cider vinegar out to attract fruit flies. The same can be achieved by washing the windows with cider vinegar, but that's probably not the effect you want. If this just attracts the flies but doesn't kill them, put one teaspoon of sugar, two teaspoons of cider vinegar, and several drops of dish-washing liquid in a small shallow plastic container. Fill up with water. The flies will be attracted to the vinegar, but the soap will kill them. Alternatively, take a small bowl and partially fill it with vinegar, then wrap it in plastic wrap. Poke a few pinholes in the plastic wrap, and the fruit flies will fly in but can't get out. Place the bowl wherever you see the fruit flies. Your garden could be in big trouble if your plants are showing signs an aphid infestation. To keep things under control, mix up a batch of aphid spray by combining equal parts lemon juice and baby shampoo in 2 cups (500ml) water. Black spot fungus causes very distinct ugly black spots on the leaves of rosebushes-just as the name implies.
