Fish Tank Maintenance and Care

• Fish tank scrubber
  1 handful non-iodized salt
  Over time, mineral deposits and other buildup can make the inside of your fish tank look a little cloudy. And what's the point of having fish if you can't enjoy watching them? Because fish are especially sensitive to environmental pollutions, it's best to avoid harsh chemicals when cleaning their tanks. Instead, use a small handful on non-iodized salt to scrub the glass clean. Make sure to rinse the tank well before refilling it. 

• for cleaning fish tanks
  Use white vinegar to clean the mineral deposits that accumulate at the top of your fish tank. Soak some paper towels in the vinegar and simply wipe around the inside of the tank where the water has evaporated and left the white mineral deposits. You can also use vinegar to clean aquarium ornaments. It is harmless to fish so you don't need to worry if some of the vinegar happens to get into the water.    

• Goldfish spa treatment
  1 quart (1 liter) distilled water
  1 teaspoon (6g) salt
  
  Even goldfish need a little pick me up now and then! Although goldfish are freshwater creatures, giving them a little dose of salt can do them some good. Next time you're getting ready to change the water in your goldfish bowl, dissolve 1 teaspoon (6g) salt in the distilled water and let your gold fish swim around in this mixture for about 15 minutes while you change the water in the tank. Just make sure to return them to their tank promptly (and don't add the salt water to the freshwater by mistake).
