- barbecue flare-up tamer
2 cups (500ml) water
1 teaspoon (5g) baking soda
A barbecue grill can get out of hand when the fat from cooking meat drips directly on the coals and ignites. And while your immediate instinct might be to douse it with water, doing so can send grease flares higher, as well as seriously hamper your heat source. Instead, keep a spray bottle filled with water and baking soda nearby. Spray lightly when flames shoot up, and the baking soda will fight the fire without completely cooling the coals.
