Honey - Health and Medical Uses

  • Hot Honey Bath Soak
Perhaps the easiest natural skin care recipe using honey -- Add 1/4 cup of honey to your hot bath water for silky and luscious skin. This is especially good for dry skin.

  • Honey and Cocoa Butter Lip Balm
    2 tablespoons of Olive Oil
    1/2 teaspoon honey
    3/4 teaspoon beeswax — grated
    1/2 teaspoon pure cocoa butter
Flavored oil of your choice (like peppermint or vanilla)
    1 vitamin E capsule

Make your own Lip Balm with no chemical additives. In a small saucepan, heat oil honey, wax and butter over a low heat and allow to cool for 2-3 minutes. Stir in flavorings and contents of Vitamin E capsule.
Pour into containers of your choice. Empty lip-balm containers are available at many craft stores or wholesale lots on the internet.

  • Honey-n-Oats Face Scrub
    1 tablespoon Honey
    1 tablespoon finely-ground Almonds
    2 tablespoon dry Oatmeal
Small amount of lemon juice or yogart

Combine honey, ground almonds, dry oatmeal and some lemon juice or yogurt to a luxurious and exfoliating facial scrub. Massage mixture gently onto face, then rinse with warm water. This blend gives a deeply emollient cleansing to the pores of your face. Almonds and oats are superb softening exfoliants.

  • Gentle Honey Cleanser
Mix 1⁄4 cup honey, 1 tablespoon liquid soap and 1⁄2 cup glycerin (found in drug stores). Apply gently on to face using a face sponge. Rinse with warm water and pat face dry.
  • constipation combatant
    1 teaspoon (5ml) lemon juice
    1 cup (250ml) warm water
    1 teaspoon (5ml) honey

It's a condition people rarely talk about, yet one that affects many on a frequent basis. Before resorting to over-the-counter remedies for constipation, try this gentle cleansing formula: Add the lemon juice to a glass of warm water and then stir in the honey. Drink one glass of this lemon juice mixture to help move things along. Repeat every few hours, if necessary.

  • Cucumber-Honey Toner
    2 teaspoon Honey
    1 Cucumber

Puree cucumber in a blender, drain and collect the juice. Add honey into the juice and mix. Pour the mixture into a bottle. Apply on the face and neck area with a cotton pad in the morning and at night. Air dry it and rinse clean. Store the bottle covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

  • Honey & Apple Toner
    1 Tablespoon of Honey
    1 Apple, cored and peeled

In a blender or food processor, combine 1 apple and honey and pulse until smooth. Apply mixture to face and allow it to stay for 15 minutes, then rinse.

  • Olive-Honey Hair Conditioner
    1/4 cup olive oil
    1/2 cup honey

For lustrous, silky, healthy hair and scalp: combine honey and 1/4 cup olive oil. Massage scalp with this conditioner, then put on a shower cap for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse as usual. Good for hair revitalizing.

  • sore throat soother
    1 teaspoon (5ml) honey
    2 teaspoons (10ml) lemon juice

Sore throats are often aggravated by a nasty buildup of phlegm, but a combination of lemon juice and honey is a great, natural way to gain some soothing relief. Place the honey in a small bowl and stir in the lemon juice. When completely combined, swallow the mixture slowly allowing ti to rest at the back of your throat as long as possible. The citric acid in the lemon juice will help to loose congestion and the honey will provide a gentle coating. Both ingredients are credited with having antibacterial properties, too.
