Corn Starch - Other Uses
- Wall patcher
2 tablespoons (36g) salt
2 tablespoons (16g) cornstarch
5 teaspoons water
No need to buy a whole container of patching compound to fill a few nail holes in a wall when you can whip up a batch of this simple home formula instead. Combine salt, cornstarch, and water in a small bowl and stir to make a thick paste. Apply the paste to the nail holes with a putty knife and let dry. Rub lightly with sandpaper until smooth and then paint to match your wall.
- Removing Carpet Odors
Get rid of unpleasant smells in carpet by dusting with baking soda or cornstarch and then vacuuming it up.
- homemade deodorant
1/2 cup (110g) baking soda
1/2 cup (65g) corn starch
Most commercial antiperspirants contain chemicals, such as aluminum, that control perspiration by blocking pores so they can't release sweat. If you'd prefer a more natural way to control body odor, consider whipping up a batch of homemade deodorant powder to neutralize odors. Mix the baking soda and cornstarch and store in a shaker-style container. (The amount should last a month or so.) Sprinkle a small amount on a damp washcloth and pat onto underarms (do not rinse afterwards). Tip: Add finely ground dried lavender to add a pleasant, natural scent to the powder.
